What should On Plane be?

What should On Plane be?

In an ideal world, the hitter wants to maximize their On Plane percentage. The higher this percentage value, the better, as that requires less conscious and active control from the hitter during the dynamic downswing.

There is a high correlation between the hitter's setup posture and the On Plane percentage metric. A hitter that has more body tilt towards the plate will tend to be On Plane longer than someone who stands more upright at the beginning of the swing and drops the barrel down into the swing plane as the swing progresses.

A good functional swing will have an average On Plane percentage starting at 60% or higher. A typical dynamic range for On Plane percentage will be 55%-65%. For the On Plane metric, moving the value higher is desired and directly indicative of a more connected swing.
